Fair point, though I'd argue that it makes sense in this film more than any other that the human characters wouldn't know anything about the Xenomorphs, since Alien: Covenant is supposed to reveal their origins. At the very least, we'll be learning where they came from.

    Concept art released

According to Empire Magazine, it's called a "Neomorph"

The design (what I can see of it anyway) reminds me strongly of the Silent Hill series and it's fleshy, grotesque monsters.

Michael Fassbender accidentally leaked their existence sometime last year, but this is the first official glimpse we've gotten of them aside from the trailers. They seem to be based on the "Beluga Xenomorph" from Alien: Engineers and fill a similar role lore-wise.

So at this point, can this film be officially retitled "Alien: We're So Sorry About Prometheus, It Won't Happen Again"? Cause this prologue is pretty much a gigantic middle-finger to the whole "Let's find the Engineers" plotline and that whole Promethus spin-off film franchise they were planning. Not that I'm complaining, I'm actually happy with this and it makes me more interested to watch the movie, I just find it funny how this film is starting to feel like damage control and an apology for Prometheus.

Also Michael Fassbender at the end looks like an older version of Magneto from the current X-Men movies.

Oh yeah, that was a thing, I forgot about that film.

Meh. I probably should feel disappointment over this, but I don't remember there being any news about it after they released that concept art other then a vague "It'll come out some day!" statement.

Also having Neill Blomkamp as the director never did much to inspire me, I know he was popular because District 9, but from I understand, all his films afterwards were boring or crap, so I had low expectations for him to do anything interesting with the franchise.

I wouldn't say the original plan for "Let's find the Engineers" plotline is 100% off the table given that Scott has stated the next film will be set in between Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, and show Shaw and David travelling the stars.

Aside from that I'd say your impression is correct given a lot of the plot points parallel Alien: Engineers - the original script for Prometheus.

I just watched it. I personally enjoyed it, though I can see why people would be disappointed by it.

When my dad first saw the trailer, he wanted to watch it, to which my first answer was, "NO" O_O. I don't like jumpscares as they tend to make me have a shock akin to heart attacks (like when a dog suddenly barked at you out of the blue, and you feel like you've jumped into the air). I understand that other people would love to watch movies like these, so I would normally back off and leave them alone.

I enjoyed watching Aliens vs. Predators though, as it featured my favourite alien warrior hunters with a noble code (albeit a tad suicidal) :)
